After accident Brit goes out to eat with Mom

Britney Spears was involved in a minor chain-reaction collision Saturday on Los Angeles' 101 Freeway, authorities confirm to E! News.

According to the California Highway Patrol's accident report, at 8:18 p.m., the popster was behind the wheel of her Mercedes-Benz heading east in stop-and-go traffic a few miles beyond the 101-405 interchange when she bumped into the car in front of her.

"She failed to notice that the vehicle in front of her had come to a complete stop," CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said. "She attempted to break but failed to stop her vehicle prior to colliding with a 2006 Nissan."

As a result, the car Spears hit was pushed into another vehicle, the driver of which "did not observe any damages," Kimball said.

No drivers were cited and "nobody was injured," he added.

While the celeb-gossip blogosphere is already afire with rumors that Spears was asked to take a sobriety test, Kimball said that, to his knowledge, no such test was performed and Spears was not asked to report to any law-enforcement station for further information gathering.

"No information of that type is in the report," Kimball said.

A source tells E! News, however, that Spears' bodyguard, who was in the passenger seat when the accident occurred, afterward drove his trouble-prone charge to a nearby fire station, where she met briefly with officers.

Following the accident, Britney had dinner at Italian hot spot Dominick's in West Hollywood with mom Lynne Spears and Lynne's friend Jackie, and then was back at her Mulholland Drive-adjacent home within the Summit gated community by 11 p.m., the source said.

While Spears has been spotted in recent weeks motoring her own vehicle within the confines of the Summit, the pop princess hasn't been doing too much of her own driving since a court commissioner placed dad Jamie Spears in charge of her general welfare.

Britney Spears in Minor Traffic Mishap

Britney Spears' motoring misfortunes continue. The pop star was involved in a minor traffic accident late Saturday, but no one was injured and no vehicles were damaged, authorities said.

Spears was driving her 2008 Mercedes on the eastbound Ventura Freeway just east of the 405 freeway about 8:20 p.m. when the mishap occurred, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

Spears was in stop-and-go traffic when her car struck a 2006 Nissan in front of her that had stopped. The Nissan then pushed forward into another vehicle. No damage was noted to any of the vehicles.

The CHP took a report and no one was cited.

Sources say it's Jamie Spears' tough love that has put her back on track. Naysayers can hoot 'n' holler all they want about whether Britney really needs someone to make decisions for her or whether Jamie's just in it for the $2,500 weekly allowance, but riddle us this:

In which of these cases is Britney worse off than she was before she locked herself in the bathroom and ended up in an ambulance (twice)?

• The Odd Couple: Britney's got a roommate now that Jamie's moved in to keep the demons out. "Jamie feels like this is his last chance to save his daughter," a family insider tells E! News. "He knows he's not perfect and hasn't always been there, but he is determined not to make the same mistakes and take care of her. He knows Britney well enough to know he needs to be there or she will fall into bad habits."

• Sayonara, Sam: Since Jamie and Lynne Spears secured that restraining order against the singer's self-proclaimed manager, Sam Lutfi, Britney's life has been oddly sans public displays of hysteria. Our sources say Jamie asks all comers to cut ties with Lutfi before they're allowed contact with his daughter.

• Peace Out, Paps: There's a reason why the freelance stalkerazzi are seeking out temp work. Per Jamie's orders, Britney stays inside for the most part and, when she does go out, she's flanked by at least two beefy bodyguards and an assistant, while her outdoor activity is limited to climbing in and out of her chauffeured Escalade. The source says she's even been able to make it to her workouts at the Home Depot Center, all the way on the outskirts of L.A., without being followed. Hence, no more 24/7-drama dollars padding the pockets.

• 26 Going On 16: We hear Britney has a 10 p.m. curfew, meaning, no more midnight shopping or...whatever the heck else she was doing at all hours while in meltdown mode. Jamie's also monitoring his little girl's medication schedule, phone calls, her visits with her sons and at-home therapy sessions. And just as getting good grades in a normal house means getting to stay out till all hours on prom night, behaving in Britney's house means trips to Dominick's, text messages with Alli Sims and all the dance rehearsals she can handle.

• Playing the Links: Britney may not get to share in the fun that obviously occurs when Jamie tees off with former enemy Kevin Federline for the occasional golf game, but the greatly improved relationship between her dad and the man who got to keep the kids has allowed her to share some badly needed mommy time with Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Overall, there might be something to this short-leash thing. But doesn't influence rub both ways? If Jamie ends up sporting a pink wig and making 2 a.m. runs to Kitson, then we'll know: This is Britney's world. We just obsess over it.

Britney Spears's former manager, Larry Rudolph, is coy about reports that the two are back in business together – but says he's met with the pop star recently and is happy to report she's "in great shape."

"I've seen her a few times over the past week or two. I've spent some time with her just socially. I've gone up to the house. I've sat with her. She's in great shape," he said Thursday while on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio show. "I couldn't be happier to see the condition she's in. But this is not a time to talk about business with her."

Addressing Spears's recent troubles, Rudolph said: "What she needs now is she needs the public to be on her side and root for her, because she deserves it and that means a lot to her."

One thing's clear: Rudolph is in Spears's corner. He praised her recent appearance on How I Met Your Mother, and told Seacrest that if he was advising Spears, he'd suggest that she "do another little thing like that" soon.

When Seacrest asked about other forces back in the singer's life – namely her parents – Rudolph replied: "She needs people around her who are there for the right reasons."

In terms of Spears's future, he said "I can't think of a situation where somebody's been set up for a bigger comeback than that girl."

"Britney's not endorsing Bally," Jamie says. "There's no deal. There's no truth to that."

Bally Chief Marketing Officer John Wildman confirms that "Britney Spears is not going to be our spokesperson. We don't have any comment regarding our relationship with Britney Spears."

However, a source close to Brit reveals that Team Spears had been in contact with Bally in the past few weeks about signing the 26-year-old to the club as part of her comeback campaign. Those conversations have since been put on hold or have ended completely.

A source at the store says Brit plans on making an appointment with eyelash expert Sandi Schroeder to get her own eyelashes extended. Maybe a SWAT team can airlift Sandi over to Brit’s place for a house call.

The pop star is bringing erstwhile manager Larry Rudolph back into her inner circle.

The duo, whose relationship has undergone well-chronicled ups and downs, most recently with the pair parting ways after Spears publicly blamed him for forcing her into rehab, is apparently back in business.

"It's true," a source close to the pop star told E! News. "They are working together."

It's unclear when Rudolph reentered the picture, but Spears' career has already been on the upswing, particularly in the wake of her fairly well-received, ratings-grabbing guest-starring turn on How I Met Your Mother last week.

Rudolph is the eagle-eyed manager credited with discovering Spears and crafting her career from small-town Louisiana ingenue to mouse-ear-wearing Disney star to international pop icon. They were together for roughly nine years, ultimately splitting around the time Spears wed Kevin Federline.

Just one day after her 2006 split from K-Fed, however, Rudolph was back on her arm. Their second professional go-round was much less lengthy—and successful—than their first, ultimately disintegrating in early 2007 after Spears let loose a series of caustic on-camera rants about Rudolph being the reason she was tricked into entering rehab and for turning her family against her.

Jamie Spears, however, has always been a public Rudolph supporter. While Papa Spears is currently holding (very tightly) the reins of his daughter's life, it's unclear whether he had any part in reforging the partnership.

Regardless, Rudolph's resumes his position after succeeding who might be Spears' most infamous manager to date, former pal Sam Lutfi.
